Statement of T/Sgt. Paul M. Trample

On 18 December 1943, after having ditched our plane, seven of our crew including myself got in the ten man raft. 2nd Lt Arthur J. Simpson, S/Sgt Richard A. Thorne and Pfc William N. Smith, the other three members of the crew were in the five man raft which was tied to our raft. On the 21st of December, a storm arose at sea, and we thought it best to untie It. Simpson’s raft as a safety precaution. During the storn at sea, we got separated and I never did see It. Simpson or the other occupants of the small raft after that.
