379th BG records state that this was caused by a runway accident(not battle damage) on 08 August 44. This Phyllis Had a Category “E” Collision with 42-107169. If you look closely at the props you can see that only engines 1 and 4 were powered up for a taxi from the runway onto the perimeter road after landing hence all blades are bent backwards on the running engine. Engine #2(not running) has a slight bend were it fell downwards and bent the prop as the port side when landing gear broke away from impact with Aircraft # 169. Note landing gear at the rear of aircraft and also note the gash over the Bomber Squadron call Letters – FO near the tail section created by the collision. There are other damages along the wing and Horizontal stabilizer that show the areas of impact too.
