Eyewitness Statements

Lt. Fusco’s crew reported seeing this aircraft at 5149N-1056E at 22000 feet trailing smoke and losing altitude and speed. Two fighters are escorting the plane.

Lt. Lovan’s crew saw A/C 944 drop back in the target area. It was a chaff ship flying 2000 feet below the lead ship. The flak over target was accurate to inaccurate intense Cp and barrage type flak. This crew saw A/C 944 drop back and it never rejoined the formation.
