B-17 43-38002 / Our Baby Details

This aircraft 43-38002 left the formation with its rudder badly damaged. It seemed to be under control and left the formation on a heading of 260 degrees. Cause of the damage is unknown.

Two flying aircraft #9 and #10 positions in the high squadron were in collision at approximately this same place and lost. It cannot be ascertained however, whether the above aircraft was effected by this collision. Reports show this was not. Damage is therefore presumed to be from flak.
