My father was piloting this B-17 on 09 MAR 45. It received heavy flak damage over Kassel GER, and limped to Saint Trond, Belgium where it was forced to land due to insufficient fuel to get back to England. Two engines had been heavily damaged over Kassel so the aircraft was left in Belgium. Per his tail gunner, the left wing had 189 holes in it and he was afraid to count the holes in the right wing because it leaking badly. For his actions on that day, Dad was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

My Dad, John “Jack” V Taylor flew in this plane with pilot 2nd Lt Nicholas W. McCartney as pilot. 2/27/1945 Mission #269 to Leipzig rail network/marshelling yards. Dad was in 92nd BG 407th BS.
