B-17G 43-38814 piloted by 2nd Lt. Wright was hit by flak in the target area. The aircraft continued with the formation until 1127 hours to 49°40″N, 07°50″E, the crew was ordered to bail out 100 miles northeast of Nancy between Saarbrucken and Mannheim at 20000 feet. Lt. Olson, the Navigator had received a slight flak injury in the right arm. All crewmen cleared the aircraft after jumping except the Pilot and the Bombardier who took the aircraft to Nancy and crash landed at Angelot airfield, 10 miles SE of Nancy.

The #1 engine, gas line, hydraulic system, pilots and navigators oxygen system and right flap were damaged by flak. The #2 prop ran away, the engine caught fire and then went out. The nose section was blown off and the plane as a whole substained major flak damage.

B-17G 43-38814 piloted by 1st Lt. Tuss was seen to be hit by flak over the target. The number 1 and 3 engine were feathered and at the rally point (54°20, 10°20) the aircraft was seen to leave the formation and head for Sweden. The fact that a landing was made and all the crew safe has been confirmed.
