Statements of Eye-Witness to the loss of B-17F 42-5090

I saw on B-17 turn back from the formation after we were already over the Island. I had just reported enemy fighters at seven o’clock, when the Fortress turned back. I saw the fighters take out after it, approximately eight of them. But they were out of sight in a shot while, so I didn’t see if the Fortress was shot down or not.

Sgt. Edward Trybon

The last time I saw the ship was on out way to home near the coast. There were from five to six fighters after it at that time. That was the last time I saw it. I think it went down to the dock.
