Last sighted by 1Lt. Loren E. Hubbell at approximately 50°52’N – 06°-59’E at approximately 22000 feet and approximately 2000 feet beneath formation.
No fighter opposition. Moderate to intense, accurate anti-aircraft fire tracking formation visually in Cologne Area. Subject aircraft was hit by this flak.
Hit in No. 1 and No. 2 engines by flak about two minutes before bombs away. Engines appeared to be burning. Lost altitude apparently under control.
One chute observed at approximately 20000 feet.
