#42-3217 was the first US bomber to land in Sweden in WWII.

S2-Report

A/C 42-3217 was damaged severely by flak over the target but bombed and was seen to leave formation at approximately 14:18 at 57°20’N – 07°30’E. #2 engine was feathered, the prop was observed to be bent, and a hole was in the port wing near the gas tanks with the gas leaking out. #3 engine was smoking and losing oil. A/C did a 180° turn and at heading of 40° true was seen flying in the general direction of Sweden.

Confirmation teletype received that crew landed safely in Sweden.
