My Uncle was Russell Chitwood. We were contacted by the Army, a few years back, that they needed DNA samples from my Mom (Russell’s Sister) and I. We sent the samples but have not received any updates.

My grandfather was Leif Hoklin, the ball turret gunner on Yahoodi. The plane ditched in the ocean and only the pilot, navigator, and my grandfather got out. They were captured and sent to POW camps. My grandfather was able to escape on multiple occasions but was always caught. He was imprisoned for 28 months, and was liberated by the Russians in the spring of 1945.
