Correction on B17 42-30735 / Rough Group history. It’s shown that 3 crew members evaded capture. In fact, only Tony Mills and Harry Maher evaded capture. Gus (August) Struhar was with the pilot Mike Stroff and were both captured along with the remainder of the crew. Although there is incomplete info in some of the POW lists, he appeared to be taken with Mike Colamonico, and Stan Prus to Stalag 17B at the eastern end of Austria. They had to endure the Stalag 17B death march from the camps location to the western end of Austria.
Info part of the NARA report of 1973 and through first hand accounts by August Struhar, my wife’s father.
My compliments of the content of your web site. Didn’t know their plane was called the “Rough Group”.
