We visited the river Jaudy last April during our exploration of the coast of Cotes D’Armor. We are British, & live now in Brittany. Having grown up ion a farm in Suffolk, England, near RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath & RAF Shepherds Grove, I am very aware of the essential part played by the 8th AirForce in World War II. We found the memorial stele to DS -B “Stinky Weather” & her crew on the banks of the river. It is in good condition, & is maintained by the Mayor’s office at Kerbors. We are impressed by the words ” They died for our Liberty. Passers by remember.!” Our late friend & neighbour Jean Nigouen, dairy farmer, served in the Resistance in the Carnoet group & never spoke of it. His medals on his coffin told me something of his history as a teenager in occupied France. God Bless all Americans who served in the 8th Airforce. They helped to ensure our liberty too!

My grandfather Wesley Fleatus Greene was the side gunner & radio operator of Stinky Weather. I only recently discovered there is a memorial to his fallen flight members. And at the same time, I discovered that only a few miles away, there is a SECOND Memorial at Musee Des Forteresses Volantes for his entire crew and for the crew of B-17 Yardbird right next to the road in front of the building in the town of Pleubian. I would give anything to be able to fly to France & see these monuments. The one in Pleubian (GPS Co-ordinates 48°50.049 N 3°8.967 W) has all of the names of both aircraft on it with photos of some of the crew who perished.

It will be a great pleasure to receive the families veterans at Pleubian “musée de la forteresse volante” . We received last march, the son of Sgt Mc Kinney coming from Texas. See you perhaps next time.
