My grandfather-in-law, Jerry Petska, Jr., was the engineer/top turret gunner on the “Mizpah” (’43-’44). I have a couple of pictures of the plane, one very similar to the above, and another with him in the pilot’s seat (21 “bombs” visible on below the window). If @B17FlyingFortress is interested in these photos, reach out to the email above. Happy to share what I have.

Hi Timothy, My grandfather, Lt Kenneth Bailey, was a pilot of the Mizpah in the European Theater, 532nd bomb squadron from Jan-June 1944. He always told stories about his turret gunner that our family loved to hear and wondering if your grandfather was that man. He gave him a nickname “Dizzy” because he used to spin the turret when the flak was intense to try to deter the damage. We have some pictures and notes he left us, would love to share if these two knew each other. – Tina

Hello! Thank you for responding! I’m working on a painting of Mizpah https://flic.kr/p/2s2KeS5 and would like to make my work as correct as possible, in her and her crews’ honor and memory. All photos are greatly appreciated and will help me get closer to finishing and perhaps printing!
