B-17G 42-32002 piloted by 2nd Lt. Thomas L. Barksdale, was seen to be hit by enemy fighters at 12:10 hours north of Osnabruck, Germany on the route into the target. The number 2 engine caught on fire and the aircraft went down. Five chutes were seen to leave the ship.
