Aircraft B-17G, 42-38006, was hit during attack by enemy aircraft, three engines were set on fire. The aircraft peeled off from the formation, turned over and headed straight down, then leveled out and exploded in mid- air. Two parachutes were seen coming from this aircraft. This happened just prior to bombs away.

the Bacho family came to Iowa and visited my mother.

According to the Red Cross Michael J Schumacher survived the plane crash but died in a POW camp from a skull fracture. I think there was some additional information sent by the Red Cross after the war that I will try and find.
