277 Sqdn ASR Hawkinge flew Spitfire spotters and found customers in two dinghies, directed a corvette towards the dinghies. At the same time HSL 173 was at 50.18N 00.27W near a rescue vessel float RV8 and sped towards the position, saw the two dinghies and the corvettes boat going towards the dinghies; 173 got to the dinghies and embarked 10 aircrew then took them to Shoreham (28 ASR Marine Craft Unit is based at Newhaven but runs Shoreham – taken from 28 MCU ORB AIR 29/446 at Kew TNA London) also AIR 27/1602/11 summary and record of 277 Sqdn (which you can download from Kew’s online ‘Discovery’

Position was 12m S of Worthing HMS Savage, destroyer may have been the ‘corvette’ as during D-Day she would have been nearby the K69 used by 277 Sqdn could be the callsign
