B-17 42-5840 Details

Aircraft was on ferry flight from Goose bay to Scotland with fuelling stop in Iceland. After about 7 hours flying the aircraft encountered heavy storm and lost Radio contact and some navigational equipment. The aircraft was lost and the pilot decided to ditch near an escort destroyer ca 150 mi. from Meeks Airfield.
