My dad was the lead navigator/ bombardier in this plane. I have a picture of it “pancaked” in my dad’s words above Manfredonia, Italy. 731 was also the first B17 to land in Russia on the shuttle mission with General Ira Eaker aboard. My dad was the lead navigator for this mission. June 6, 1944. Does anyone know why this plane went down?
