B-17 42-97972 Details
Sporadic attacks by enemy aircraft. Aircraft was hit by two enemy aircraft and caught fire between #3 and #4 engines. Aircraft then peeled off to left and started down. About 5-6000 feet below aircraft blew up in the air.
Aircraft was went down in very tight spin and blew up.
Two parachutes came out immediately after missing aircraft was hit. Opened at about 21000 feet. About a minute later two more came out and opened at about 16000 feet. It is possible some of the crew may have pulled delayed jumps.
