B-17 42-97997 / Honorable Patches Details
The B-17 returned from the mission with serious flak damage to the controls. It proved to be impossible to land it, so the pilot attempted to head out to the North Sea. All his crew members bailed out near Framlingham, Suffolk. When the pilot would leave the B-17 went out of control suddenly and dived into the ground, the pilot perishing in the crash.
