Hello,
I’m doing a project on Miss X, the B17 bomber that was flown by a 1st Lt. John “Jack” Joseph Lee from Salem, Massachusetts.
Can you point me in a strong direction so that I can research more about, not only the plane itself and its missions, but what became of it following the war. I know it ended up as scrap metal, sadly, but I need to secure more information on this beloved bomber that Lt. Lee rather cherished.
Any suggestions, guidance, or direction is greatly appreciated. And have a very Happy Holiday that’s approaching soon.

My father, Carl C. Kircher was the belly gunner for Miss X. I met Jack Lee at one of the bomber reunions my family attended. (it was in Seattle,WA) He passed many years ago, unfortunately his medals, ribbons, dog tags, and pictures of the plane and her crew were stolen a little over a year ago. So nice to see her again! Not sure if this is still something you are looking for info on, but I just happened upon your request.
My father was John “Jack” Joseph Lee, pilot of Miss X. The plane was on display in a public Park in Salem after the war. But it began to be vandalized and was eventually taken away for scrap. However, before it was taken away, my grandfather removed the pilot seat, and my family is still in possession of that.

I have no stories to tell, but I’m the grand-daughter of Stanley Kolodziej. Tail Gunner. I never heard any stories, as I was too young to understand. I may be too old to care now, but the past fascinates me, and I’d love to hear any stories related to this crew – especially my Grand Father. Sadly, his wife (Alma – my Grandmother), son (Stanley – my dad), and daughter (Judy – my aunt) have since passed. He has one remaining son who is healthy and very much alive, my Uncle Joe. 🙂
