Air crew report 12943 is not missing. In Fold3 the serial number is erroneously registered as 44-8178 instead of the correct 44-6178.

The aircraft crashed near Montenere with the entire crew evading (E&E Report 769) – maybe this web site should invest in some research and not depend on B-17 story for inaccurate information
