B-17 44-6197 Details

I noticed just before target time while over the Alps, a B-17 in a slight spin, it seemed to have been in trouble. It was in the flak area, so it must have been hit by flak. I did not see any parachutes leave the aircraft. I did not see any fire, although it was smoking quite a but, and just kept going down in a wide turning spin, under control all the time. That was the last I saw of the aircraft. Being ball turret gunner I just saw the bomber going down in the spin.
