The Captain of Saint Louie Woman was Laurence (Larry) Joseph Lazarri b. 27 August 1924. Larry flew 29 missions. He was just 20 years old, and returned his crew safely after every mission. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross when he landed his B-17 at Thorpe Abbotts airfield with a severely damaged left wing, the result of a mid-air collision during a bombing mission. Larry was my father-in-law. Larry passed away at age 98 on 21 May 2023.
