According to my research it correct that this B-17 #43-37796 really was named “Stinky”. While the B-17 #43-37976 / Lilly Marlene collided with B-17 #44-8099 on 22 October 1944.

I believe the information for aircraft Serial 43-37796 (Stinky) is incorrect. The MACR cited (09656) was for aircraft serial 43-37976, Lilly Marlene, 306th BGp, 423rd BSqn lost 10/22/44 in collision with another aircraft. There are two references for Serial 43-37796 (Stinky) which indicate it was in the 457th BGp, 750th BSqn. It crash landed 03/24/45 in liberated Germany and was salvaged, so there was no MACR. Note the photo on the 457th Bomb Group Association site which shows damage to the nose but no damage to the propellers.
