Eyewitness Statement

Aircraft #925 lost #3 engine at target at 1214 hours, altitude 26000′. Let down wheels in signifying intention to aborting. Aircraft was losing altitude slowly and under control.


German Report To Computing Station West Oberursel

Subject: Downing of a single Fortress B-17G on 21 January 1945, at 1533 hours over the area Muesingen, 500m west of Ingstetten, 24km west of Ulm, CU 5/04 East MA.

The Fortress flew alone at the time of attack on Mannheim, Aschaffenburg, Hanau and Pforzheim, it flew 1347 over the area of Bruchsal south of Heilbronn east of Stuttgart, south of Reutlingen-Horb, Pforzheim, Heilbronn, Schwäbisch-Gmünd, Ulm.

Shot down west of Ulm by Me 109. Aircraft altitude 2400-1900-1600m. Identification of Fortress (“4”) 833. Sqn. 486. Group, 3. Bomb. Div.
Maps were sent to Oberursel concerning the attack on Pfrozheim on June 1944. Effects salvaged from the aircraft. No parts of bodies found. No parachutes seen. Crew presumably bailed out before the crash.
