My Dad flew eleven missions, including his his final (50th) mission on this plane (42-31590). He was in the 2nd Bomb Group’s 20th Squadron, not the 49th. Does this mean that your data is incorrect, or maybe that the plane was reassigned to the 20th, or maybe that different squadrons in the same Bomb Group could be assigned to use each other’s planes? I do know that the 20th’s hardstands and those of the 49th’s were adjacent to each other at Amendola Field. And this was definitely not just a one-off. My father flew his first mission on on 590 (what he called her) on June 26, 1944 and his last on July 26, so for at least that month 590 was being used pretty extensively by the 20th Squadron.
