B-17 44-6500 Details

Aircraft received a direct hit by flak, believed to have been a ground rocket, on the right wing just as bombs were released. Right wing was folded against fuselage and aircraft flipped over on its back. The wing gasoline tank exploded and entire aircraft began to burn and then exploded.

One man was seen to bail out of aircraft. Reported to be the tail gunner. His chute was seen to open. No further information on other members of the crew. Location of aircraft when last seen 52°30″N-13°22″E.
