B-17 42-5777 / The Gin Mill Details

Statement from MACR 4664

At approximately 1515 o’clock I saw Number 1 and Number 2 engines wind milling and one engine smoking on Lt. Hucle’s Plane, #777. I counted nine chutes open and the tenth opened approximately two minutes after the ninth opened. I do not know what caused the trouble.

Sgt. Louis L. Dragoski

At approximately 1500 o’clock I saw Lt. Hucle’s plane, #777 pull into the right of formation, drop down several hundret feet below us, and I saw ten (10) men jumping out. All ten of the chutes opened. The plane then made a gradual right turn and went out of sight. I was not sure of the exact position, the Navigator reported it as in Southern Austria.

2Lt. John H. McAllister
