Subject: B-17 No. 41-24395 “I Do Dit” – Recovery of Survival Kit
Good evening,
My name is Massimiliano, and I am writing to you from Italy — more precisely from Friuli Venezia Giulia (Villesse, Gorizia), near Udine.
I am contacting you regarding the B-17 number 41-24395 “I Do Dit”, which was shot down over my town, just a few kilometers from my home.
My grandfather Michele, who was a young boy at the time, saw the B-17 crash and went to the field where the plane had come down. While searching among the wreckage, he found the survival kit, which included fishing gear meant to be used in case the aircraft had gone down at sea.
After all these years, we have kept it at home, and it is still in excellent condition.
I am reaching out because I would like to return it to the families of the crew members or to a museum, and I was wondering if you could help me in any way.
Thank you very much,
Kind regards,
Massimiliano Callegher
