My father-in-law, James (Jim) Tyler, was shot down on Dec. 20, 1942 on the same mission 41-24432 was on. Tyler was on B-17 41-24452. The pilot on his aircraft was Robert S. English. English and another crew member Robert S. Haynes were killed in action. The other crew members either bailed out or survived a crash landing by the co-pilot Charles Mendel and then all were captured and became POWs. The listing of English and Haynes on 41-24432 “Danellen” crew is a mistake. The tail numbers being almost identical, 24432 and 24452, probably caused some confusion in the reporting process of the KIAs
Thank you,
Gordon Smith

Hello Gordon,
thank you very much for the information,
That mean, I should remove Allen W. Haynes & Robert S. English from the crew of 41-24432 / Danellen, correct?
Cheers

MACR 5381 (https://catalog.archives.gov/id/90982819) covers this B-17, mostly starting from page 8. According to the MACR, a post-mission interrogation of group crewmen revealed: “An aircraft, believed to have been B-17F 41-24432, was last seen at 1205 hours near Rouen. At this time aircraft was going down in a spin and was about 3,000ft above the ground, smoking badly from a hit between No. 3 and 4 engines.”
