I am searching for pictures and records of my father, a ball turret gunner who flew 52 missions over Italy and Germany. I believe his plane was shot down once or twice, Papar Doll & Dorothy. I have his silk color chart from his ditch bag, along with his medals and clusters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He passed away in 2004.
I served 6 years in the US Navy, 1983 – 1989

My grandfather Rodney was the gunny and chief mechanic on this aircraft. He used to tell stories about being captured after the crash. He spent 27 mo as a POW and was rescued the day he was planned to be executed. He built mole tunnels and had a map. He took a gun butt to the head. He escaped and got caught once or twice. He told so much history about what happened. I can’t imagine what he went through at such a young age.
