Assigned 364BS/305BG [WF-G] Presque Is 19-Oct-42; Grafton Underwood 25-Oct-42; Missing in Action 4-Feb-43. Primary target was the railroad marshalling yards at Hamm, Germany but the target was obscured by clouds and the port area of Emden, Germany was bombed as a target of last resort. Aircraft sustained a hit by flak which caused it to have a mid-air collision with a German FW190 fighter and it crashed in tifal land near Filsum/Ostfriesland near Leer, Germany. 6KIA 4 POW MACR 15395.

John Glen Shaljean was not KIA as shown above. After El Lobo was shot down, Glen was a POW for 2 years in Germany but came back to the USA and lived to age 95.

There is a small memorial for this crew in Stickhausen. With a photo of the crew and the Geram pilot who shot this plane. I have made photos of this memorial and prop.

My grandfather was the bombardier on board the B17 Aristocrap when it was shot down. I am writing about his experiences in Stulag luft 1 POW camp. I would love to see this picture of the memorial and the German pilot who shot down the plane. labbunny129@gmail.com

The German pilot that shot down this plane was Rudolf Mayer or Meyer. He was KIA and is buried now in Leer in R11/6. Ev.Luth. Friedhof.
Al the crew of this plane that was KIA is buried now in the Ardennes American Cemetery .

My uncle, Albert Ray Moline, was the Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner on El Lobo. He was my father’s only sibling. I was given his name as my middle name. My wife and I were able to visit his grave at the Ardennes Military Cemetery in 2018, a very meaningful experience. In the photo of the crew, he is on the left end of the front row. My parents were able to meet some or all of the surviving crew members at 305th Bomb Group reunions. In 2021 I was able to fly in a B-17, Sentimental Journey, that was flying out of our Chico, CA airport. I was able to stand in Uncle Albert’s top turret gunner position. That was also a very meaningful experience.

Cornelius A. Jenkins was my uncle, the second born of four boys. My father was his older brother. I was privilaged to visit his grave site in the Ardennes American Cemetery several years ago. For me it was a very moving experience. I live in Memphis, Tennessee and several years ago I was able to sit in the pilot’s seat of the Memphis Belle (a B-17F like my uncle flew) which at that time was housed in Memphis.
