My father, Willard Heckman was the navigator. He vacationed with your father at Stalag Luft III. I recently heard from the daughter of pilot Alec Blair. These were extraordinary men. My father loved to talk about his time as a POW, but it took some prying to get him to talk about the combat missions. A few years ago I was going through his papers and found his detailed account of the day they were shot down. It was a letter that my father had written to the brother of Naydock, the only crew member who was killed the day they crashed. It is a gripping story. If you are interested I would be glad to share it with you.
