My friend was Frank Freeman. I’d be very interested in any digital scans photos of the Sandman, or of Frank and the crew!

I am “Ike” Depolo’ s daughter. The picture of the crew was put on a T-Shirt which I still wear (and mend). I recall the crew met and these T-shirts were made. My dad was tail gunner. I still have his long wool underwear I don’t know how I would have gotten thru the huge freezing storm in WA state I think was 2009 — biggest in history. No power and freezing cold for 8 days! I also have the silk scarves my dad got in Capri with my name and my mom’s name. I have hundreds of letters from my dad and still have not transcribed them all. He wrote to my mother every day. She did the same. When I was in private practice, this history compelled me to represent soldiers and sailors. Soon as I get a chance, I will check to see if there are letters between my mom and and other crew wives. I did see a couple last time I went thru the boxes.

My father was Sgt Depolo, tail gunner on B-17 “Sandman”. I have some pictures, his dairy and his flight jacket (lining restored) but original other than that.

Just curious where you got all your photos. My father was Eldon Bielss the pilot. He wrote a book about all their missions. And my mother painted the cover for the book

Frank Freeman was my father, ball turret gunner. He was very fond of his old friends, and he and my Mom attended the reunions in their elder years.

My father was Jesse Raybourn. I met many of the crew at the reunions and have wonderful video footage of my father’s interviews about their service together. Many photos and documents. I am trying to find the book again. Watching “Masters of the Air” and am thrilled to get a better idea of the life of a B-17 crew!
