My dad’s, 2LT Donald I. Greene (Co-Pilot), 1st combat mission! Flying with an experienced crew of 2LT Edmond L. Dorbburgh (Pilot). Forced landing in Belgium 1944 Sep 22. Aircraft engines repaired by pilots, then in run up German artillery disabled the aircraft and had to be abandoned. My dad’s parachute was cut by shrapnel. This mission, my dad’s first, was the first of three missions identified on my dad’s DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) orders! A fine welcome to WWII. They were assigned to the 327th Bomb Squadron, 92nd Bomb Group. Cheers!
