My dad, Joseph F. Doyle, was an original Skippy crew member (navigator). He survived 25 missions over Germany and France, most being flown in Skippy. He told me that Skippy was a very reliable aircraft. I believe the Aircraft Commander had the last name of Harmon. My dad’s Skippy jacket is on display at the Pima Air and Space museum in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.

Hello, I am a member of the Robertsbridge Aviation Society in East Sussex, England close to where Skippy came down at Hounsell Wood, Hurst Green (A few miles north of the town of Battle). Some large pieces of wreckage were still in the wood until about 1968. We have quite a few bits of the wreckage in our museum. The aircraft actually crashed at 11.02 on the 5th of Feb 1944 and was guarded by 512 Searchlight until the 7th when the RAF took over and remained on guard until the 23rd of April by which time it had been salvaged.

George Harmon was my grandfather. Unfortunately he passed away in 1976, 2 years before I was born. My grandmother was Skippy. She was with us well into her 80’s. I have longed to know more about my grandfather and the B-17 named after my grandmother! My brother, by complete accident, stumbled into the Arizona museum with “Skippy” memorabilia. I have his bomber jacket. On the back, a hand painted cartoon Hitler, with 25 painting missiles chasing him. Were there 2 pilots that flew the “Skippy”?
