My Grandfather was Corporal Richard Anthony Norton POW from the B-17 Sissy shot down 16 March 1944. On some paperwork from 17 March 1944 it has him going from a Corporal to a Captain with a change of Serial # from 12044723 switched to Serial # 0-12045723. Why would the department make this change? Was it by mistake on two documents dated on the same date?
