Das Flugzeug 877 wurde beim ersten oder zweiten Angriff getroffen. Ein 20mm ging durch die linke Tragfläche, außerhalb des Triebwerks Nr. 1. Der 877 flog etwa zehn (10) Minuten lang in seiner Position, dann schälte er sich nach rechts ab, offenbar unter Kontrolle. Etwa eine Minute später knickte der linke Flügel ab und das Feuer begann an der Hinterkante. Wenige Sekunden danach brach der Flügelabschnitt ab, und das Flugzeug geriet außer Kontrolle und geriet in eine Steilspirale nach links. Sieben Schirme wurden von meinen Besatzungsmitgliedern gesehen.

I have my father’s narrative of the final moments including his capture,treatment and repatriation. I’ll try and forward the original text. He has since passed away and among his belongings I have complete documentation of treatment and Stalag Luft 4 where he was interred until repatriated.

Dziękuję że twój ojciec walczył na II wojnie światowej. jest kamień pamiątkowy w miejscu gdzie jego samolot B-17 #42-37877 “Popcorn Fort” spadł i się rozbił w maju 1944r.
