In the picture of Mary Jane and crew of the 379th bomb group- 526th squad, my grandfather pictured is top right. Lester Leon Barnard. My understanding he was the pilot however your crew listing does not list him. Could you explain this discrepancy? Thanks so much.

Hello Stuart,
the names in the description only shows the crew, who flew with her on their last mission.
Sometime crew flying other B-17, while her “own” B-17 is under repair.

The B-17 in the photo is B-17F-90-BO 42-30158 ‘Mary Jane’. The photo was taken on 27th July 1943 but 42-5809 was salvaged on 17th June 1943. 42-30158 was assigned to the 379BG on 23rd June 1943.

My wife’s grandfather is pictured back row second from the left. But he’s not listed in the crew names. Believe he was a bombardier. Fred Brinkley. Any other info about this crew and the plane? Thanks
