I knew the captain of this bomber. His name was Elton C Rabe, known as Rudy Rabe. He lived in Wilmington, Illinois. He used to tell me “43 missions, never lost a man.” I may have mis-heard him about the 43 missions, but that’s what I remember him saying. He signed me up for the draft at his kitchen table.
