My father was the bombardier on the No Balls. Your father was in the same barracks as my dad, #10. Here is the link to his WWII website: http://www.awspow.net

I think I remember visiting your family when we were young. It would have been in the mid 70s.

To Peter Kilduff.
Hi Peter. Thank you for contacting me as the daughter of the bombardier of the No Balls. Regarding your search for stories about the crew, I’m wondering if you have seen our website which documents our dad’s WWII experience, particularly his incarceration at Stalag Luft 1. This site also includes photos the Germans took of the crash site near Vijfhulzen along with photos of us visiting the site (based on eye witness accounts) in February 2014. The link is http://www.awspow.net. I hope you find the site beneficial. Cheers. Cheryl Starratt-Basheer

You’re welcome Peter. Sorry to hear that you have been going through a rough patch – hopefully not due to COVID. I hope you are able to locate the crash site on the edge of the town of Vijfhuizen. I wish I could give you the coordinates to the spot, but all I can tell you is that the crash site is located northeast of the intersection of Drie Merenweg and Vijfhuizerweg on a strip of land that parallels the channel of water called the Ijtocht (the ditch where No Balls came to a rest) and is after the second electrical tower (see map below). There is a sign that says Walter B. LeClercPad at the entrance to the bike path that parallels the ditch. Good luck.

My grandfather, Walter, was the pilot. I really appreciate the Starratt family and all the work they put into the website linked above (http://www.awspow.net/). This is just about the only source of information I have been able to learn what happened to these heroes as my grandpa never once talked about it. I have had a few family members make it out to the memorial in Vijfhuizerweg and the crash museum and I hope to myself one of theses days.
