I am in search of a photo of this plane and/or its crew.
Any crew updates are also welcomed.
My grandfather was F/O James (Jim) Nicklas Hentges Bombardier.

Melanie – I saw your message and wanted to let you know I am also searching for some info of the crew of the Green Weenie. My grandfather Lester Holmgren was the enginee/top turret gunner. He passed away in 1986, while I was in college. I know it is 2020 and much time has passed, but I think at least one of the crew members may still be alive. Ed Eggen was listed in Colfax, WI as a 97 year old. He was the waist gunner. I live in Illinois and am going to try to reach out to someone in Colfax to find out if they know his status.

Hi, this may be a little late, but I hope some on this thread sees this. My grandfather was also part of the Green Weenies, his name was Donald L Campbell. I just found this out tonight and found this post researching the weenies. My grandfather was writing a book about his time throughout the navy and how he became a commander and then retired to teach and train new pilots. I have many pictures, articles and documents I am sorting through. Please feel free to reach out if there is anyone I can help someone find. I have a lot to sort through, but it is fascinating what they did during WWII for us.

Interesting. Dad was the radio operator/waist gunner on B-17 Green Weenie, but none of those crewmembers listed were with him. I wonder if they were the next crew to inherit the Wennie. Dad and his crew flew 30 and back to the states. He said that more than a few times, they brought the Weenie back looking like swiss cheese. He got a flak hit/injury. Those guys, all, are to be admired and respected

Hi! Was anyone able to find a photo of the plane and/or its crew? I’m the granddaughter-in-law of the pilot, Monroe David. I never had the pleasure and honor of meeting him, as he passed away before I joined his family. I’ve been trying to find more pictures and information for my father-in-law, Monroe’s son.

I don’t know if I can reach anyone here or they can help me or me help them. During WW2 my grandmother was in the WRAF based out of the war offices in Whitehall London. She and her best friend met the crew of B-17 43-38644 shortly after the plane arrived in England. They gave her and her friend each a $1 silver certificate around the edge is written “Crossed Atlantic September 25th 1944 B-17 G 43-38644 From Goose Bay **** to Iceland to ***** ******** England. The asterisks are somewhat ineligible after 78 years down the middle of the dollar each of the crew wrote their names. I’d love to know if anyone recognizes the signatures. Now unfortunately I don’t have the one her best friend was given and the one my grandmother gave me isn’t in the best condition but I’m happy to have anyone reach out and I’ll send a picture.
I hope this works out.

Hi Peter, I might (hopefully) be able to identify one of the signatures on the coin! Would you be willing to send me a photo of it?
