I was told my Dads (Ralph P. Smith, BTG), plane was hit by flak two engines out on one side spiraled down, controlled spin by pilot.
Pilot unable to keep level crashed nose first killing Bombardier. Other including my Dad BTG were pinned by force so unable to parachute out. Landed in Poland? Were taken in, hid in potatoe bin, ate spoiled potatoes to survive. Hooked up with American soldiers taken back. Does anyone else know of this story?
