B-17F 42-30176, gesteuert von 1Lt. John L. Sundberg wurde etwa 10 Minuten vor der belgischen Küste von feindlichen Flugzeugen angegriffen, als es zum Ziel flog. Das Flugzeug verließ die Formation und es wurden sieben Schirme vom Flugzeug gesehen. Nach dieser Beobachtung wurde kein Aufschlag am Boden gesehen.

Hello,
I have a War Log that was kept by my grandfather, Lester Schwab, who was the flight engineer on the Assassin. I’d be happy to share some pictures of the pages with you. I am also looking for more info on their mission.

Wonderful sketches, thanks for sharing. I’m also seeking more information on their mission, POW experiences etc. John Moyer went on to become an architect that designed and built many homes in the Coachella Valley. I’m always trying to find information about him and his life. Anything that you can share would be appreciated.

LeRoy Funk was my uncle. He did make it back to England via partisans through Belgium, France, Spain and Gibraltar.

Interested in any pictures or information on the crew of the Assassin.My dad Emerson Davies died in December 1978 at the age of 58.He was an underground miner in Butte Mt after he got out of the military.

Close friend of mine was Franklin G. Barrett – left waist gunner on the „Assassin“ B-17 – 42-30176. I have his autobiography and some photographs. e-mail me if you are interested in further information. I’d like to see some of the photographs you have to see if they are the same ones I have. Mike

My uncle was LeRoy Funk. He survived and made it back to England.
e eventually made it back to England after they were shot down.

My father, Claude Schuyler Livingston, was the bombardier on the 4230176 Assassin. He returned safely home after the liberation of his POW camp, and married my mother 4 months later. He worked for Procter and Gamble in New York for a few years and then he was recalled for the Korean War and was stationed at McDill AFB. When P&G asked him if he was interested in moving to FL, they packed their bags. My parents lived in the same town in FL until their deaths. It is hard to believe that my grandson is the same age my father was (27) when Daddy flew these missions.
