My Grandfather Clifford Hamilton was the pilot of 42-30194.
Both he and his brother went to Canada before the US got into the war to be flight instructors. After that they were both shipped back to the US to train as flight commanders in the B17. They then were shipped off to their new base in Horham England and flew with the 95th BG , 335 sq. .

My Uncle, Claude DeVerger was Ball Turret gunner killed on that plane. Last mission then he would’ve been coming home. Lots of brave guys lost in WWII. So proud of the Air Force!

My Great Uncle Leroy Lawson was the navigator. His story is told in the book B17s over Berlin. My father told me how him and fellow airmen were stabbed in the back by someone in the French underground. The Gestapo kicked his front teeth in after he was found in 43 and served as a POW in Stalag Luft 3 through the end of the war. I remember him as a very humble man in my much younger years. My grandfather and all his brothers/distant relatives served in WWII.

According to my Great Uncle’s writing, he was shot down neat Valkenswaard Holland which is close to the Belgian border. I’d love to hear more from you about this.
