My grandfather was the rail gunner on this plane. Charles Arthur Wardle.
Feel free to contact me to share information if so desired. I don’t have much. But I welcome more.

Erika:
My Dad, Robert N. Behnke, carried a picture of this plane back from the war in his duffel bag. The pic was damaged because he had to fold it (I still have it here). At Christmas time one year, my family paid to have the picture restored and I have it hanging in my office now. My Dad was a Master Sergeant who maintained this plane as it returned from its bombing runs until it was taken out of action. His next B-17 bomber was called ‘Offspring’ which we’ve been able to determine carried out 45 bombing missions over Germany and German held territories. My Dad died in 1969 at the age of 51 from Mesothelioma and we believe one of the possibilities was that he was exposed to asbestos while repairing the damaged fortresses after they returned from their runs. ANYWAY, we would love to have more info that you might have and I certainly would be glad to share a pic of this plane as it was restored from the damaged one that Dad carried back after the War. Thank you for this post and we certainly send our appreciation to you for the price your grandfather paid for keeping our world safer.

My great uncle, Stan Gula, was the radio operator on this flight.
We have no pictures of him, if you have one, would you mind sharing a copy?
Thank you.

My great uncle, Stan Gula, died in this unfortunate incident. We have no pictures of him and wondered if anyone may have one to share.
Thank you to all who served during this terrible war.
