*(I’ve found 3 different “Rikki Tikki Tavi” B-17’s; and a single “Rikki Tikki Tavi II”…
In fact, there may be a 4th “Rikki Tikki Tavi”-
If i can verify that one, it would bring the total to 5! B-17’s with that name—)

The story is fairly accurate, but Gene Moran’s avocation after repatriation was as a rural mail carrier. It is also true that he was a volunteer fireman. A book about Gene’s final flight was published earlier this year. The title, appropriately, is “Tailspin”. I highly recommend it.
