My Father was also ball turret gunner on Dear Mom, and on one of his flights they went into a spin but managed to pull out and land on a Spitfire base in Dover.

My father Matthew Totter flew in formation directly next to Lohmeyer’s plane “Dear Mom” on this day in B-17 #42-3490. See Macr 5919. Years ago I was able to get in contact with the tail gunners daughter from Lohmeyer’s crew and she was able to tell me the story of her dad Hubert E. Phillips time in Sweden. My father had trained with this crew back in the states and traveled together with them to England.
