Die oben Genannten waren Besatzungsmitglieder des Flugzeugs Nr. 42-5058, das am 16. Februar 1943 von einem Einsatz in St. Nazaire, Frankreich, nicht zurückkehrte. Das Flugzeug wurde um 11.12 Uhr von einem feindlichen Flugzeug aus einer Höhe von 18.000 Fuß abgeschossen. Es befand sich etwa 25 Meilen nördlich des Ziels, St. Nazaire, Frankreich. Der rechte Flügel begann zu brennen, als ein Feuer hinter Motor Nr. 4 Motor ausbrach. Als die Tragfläche abfiel, öffneten sich die Bombenschachttüren und eine Luke. Nur ein Fallschirm wurde gesehen.

Henry was my father, he was POW at Stalag Luft III until liberated April 1945.
Died in April 2000 from cancer.

Hi Brian, I met your Father when he came to Brittany, France, in the early 90’s. I was part of the museum team who searched local ww2 crash sites and attended the ceremonies in honour of your Father, his crews, and the others…
I remember we exchanged pilots’ stories (not the same experience later obviously), like how we felt the same after our first solo. He signed my logbook, I gave him an aeronautical map of the area. Good time.
It was a pleasure and an honour to meet your Father. We were all sorry to hear of his passing. Good man. RIP.
